The binding bill comes from SVA once the tax office has set your profit.

During the year SVA bills you advance payments. If they are too low, a top-up follows later. Why a top-up happens

Why the rate goes up

More profit, higher rate.

Smaller incomes pay on a sliding scale. From CHF 10'100 you pay 5.371 %, from CHF 60'500 the full 10 %. The rate always applies to your whole profit. So when you move up a band, the contribution goes up on every franc below it too.

Questions What people often ask.

When do I pay these contributions?
During the year you pay advance payments, four times, each within 10 days after the end of the quarter. The final bill only comes once the tax office has set your profit for good.
What if I earn less than CHF 10'100?
Then you pay the minimum contribution of CHF 530.– for 2026, even with a loss. The admin fee comes on top.
I'm employed and earn a bit on the side as self-employed.
Up to CHF 2'500 a year from the side activity, you only pay contributions if you ask to. Above that, SVA works it out as shown here.
Is the admin fee the same everywhere?
Every compensation office has its own tariff, at most 5 % of the contributions. The calculator uses SVA Zürich's, valid from 2026. If you pay late, SVA charges the highest rate.
Is this tax or legal advice?
The calculator applies the official scale to your number, nothing more. The binding bill comes from SVA.
