AHV is worked out exactly. Tax is an estimate of federal, cantonal, municipal and church tax. The calculator doesn't know about other income, savings or further deductions.

Why the AHV part sometimes jumps

One band up, and your whole profit pays more.

Up to CHF 60'500, AHV uses a sliding scale. The rate depends on your profit and then applies to all of it. As long as you stay in the same band, 500.– more profit costs you about 31.– in AHV. If those 500.– push you into the next band, it's 70.–, because the higher rate now applies to every franc below too.

Questions What people often ask.

Why set anything aside at all?
When you're self-employed, nobody takes AHV and tax off your pay. The bills come later, the final AHV one often only after your tax assessment. If you put a share aside every month, the money is there when they arrive.
How exact is the tax?
It's an estimate using the 2026 federal and Zurich tariffs and your municipality's multiplier. Anything the calculator doesn't know, like savings or a salary on the side, is missing. Your tax bill can look different.
Do AHV contributions count as an expense?
Don't enter them as an expense here. The calculator deducts them for the tax itself, the same way the tax office does.
What about VAT?
Under CHF 100'000 turnover a year you don't charge VAT, so it isn't part of this.
Is this tax advice?
The calculator applies the official tariffs to your numbers. It doesn't replace advice.
